Building Beautiful Character: A Study of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn (Part 1)
This course is a structured journey through selected chapters of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn, focusing on the development of character through the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ.
Throughout the course, you will key qualities that shape the believer — including sincerity, repentance, patience, striving in good, fulfilling the rights of others, maintaining family ties, humility, generosity, and good conduct. Each lesson is an opportunity to reflect on these teachings and consider how they are applied in daily life.
The aim of this course is to help students engage with the aḥādīth in a way that leads to real change — strengthening awareness of Allāh, improving conduct, and building consistency in good character.
This course was delivered live during Ramaḍān and is now being made available more widely for those who wish to benefit from its content.
Part 2 of Building Beautiful Character will be launching on 1st April, continuing this focus on character, reflection, and implementation.
Course Content:
Building Beautiful Character (Part 1)
This course takes students through selected chapters of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn, focusing on the development of character through the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ.
Students will learn the foundations of sincerity, repentance, patience, and mindfulness of Allāh, along with striving to do good and actively contributing to righteousness. Students will also cover chapters on fulfilling rights and responsibilities, building strong relationships, and maintaining proper conduct with others. The course also focuses on purifying the heart through fear and hope in Allāh, detachment from worldly excess, and reliance on Him. Finally, it emphasizes refining one’s character by avoiding negative traits and cultivating humility, generosity, and excellent manners, leading to the development of complete and beautiful character (ḥusn al-khuluq).
Outcomes for Students
Students gain a structured understanding of Islamic character, learn to apply aḥādīth in daily life, increase awareness of Allāh and the ākhirah, and develop practical habits to improve behavior and relationships.
Course Content:
Building Beautiful Character (Part 2)
Part 2 continues the journey through Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn, expanding from personal character into social conduct, daily etiquette, worship, and purification of the heart.
Students will explore how prophetic guidance shapes not only the individual, but their interactions, responsibilities, and relationship with Allāh in all aspects of life.
Students will learn to refine their character through developing gentleness, humility, dignity, and clarity in communication, while guarding the tongue and maintaining respectful interactions. They will cover social conduct and etiquette, including honouring guests, observing proper manners in gatherings, respecting privacy, and building and maintaining strong relationships.
The course also explores living Islam in daily life—fulfilling family and community responsibilities, caring for others, observing etiquette in travel and companionship, and upholding the rights of others with integrity.
Students will strengthen their worship through excellence in ṣalāh, voluntary prayers, night worship, fasting, charity, and recitation of the Qur’an, alongside consistency in devotion and purification. They will develop a deeper connection with Allāh through dhikr, morning and evening adhkār, duʿā, gratitude, and reliance upon Him.
Additionally, the course focuses on purifying the heart by avoiding harmful traits such as backbiting, envy, arrogance, insincerity, and showing off, while cultivating sincerity, humility, and awareness of Allāh. It also emphasizes avoiding ظلم (oppression), pride, conflict, and misuse of wealth, encouraging justice, compassion, and balance.
Finally, students will be guided towards self-accountability, seeking forgiveness, and reflecting on the ākhirah—preparing for their return to Allāh through conscious action and the development of a sincere, balanced, and beautiful character (ḥusn al-khuluq).
Outcomes for Students
The outcome is the development of individuals who embody ḥusn al-khuluq (beautiful character), combining strong inner faith with outward excellence in conduct.
